Growth in the number of overnight stays in the city in 2017 is higher than in the rest of the country.

Let there be no doubt: Setúbal is really fashionable. Proof of this is the data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) concerning tourism and reveal that, in 2017, the city lived the best year of its history.

According to the INE, last year, Setúbal surpassed, for the first time, the barrier of 300,000 overnight stays in hotel establishments in the county. Throughout 2017, hotels, local accommodation establishments and rural and housing tourism, registered a total of 313,003 overnight stays. Figures representing a growth of 14.4% compared to 273,637 overnight stays in 2016.

With this increase, Setúbal is increasingly becoming one of the favorite destinations of tourists visiting our country, far exceeding the values of growth of tourism at national level, which was set at 10.6%.

In a note released this Friday, the Setúbal Municipal Council points out that these “official data show the sustained growth of tourist indicators in recent years in Setúbal, due to several factors, such as the qualification of the territory and the creation of conditions for greater attractiveness of visitors and investors. ”

In the same note, the City Council also recalls that “the internal and external promotion of dimensions such as Arrábida and Sado, beaches and nature and gastronomy and wines have also contributed to the tourist attraction.”
